A location QR code carries GPS coordinates. Scanning it opens the default maps app with directions to the exact spot — useful for invitations, event mailers and wayfinding signage.
How to create Location QR code
-
1
Get the coordinates
Open Google Maps and long-press the spot to read its latitude and longitude.
-
2
Paste them into the form
Enter the latitude and longitude in their fields.
-
3
Test it on a phone
Scan the code to confirm the map opens at the right place.
Frequently asked questions
- Does it open Google Maps or Apple Maps?
- The code uses the standard geo format, so it opens whichever maps app is default on the device — Apple Maps on iPhone, Google Maps on Android.
- Can I use a street address instead of coordinates?
- Coordinates are far more precise, especially for narrow streets and large buildings. If you only have an address, use a URL QR code pointing at the Google Maps link.
- Does it work offline?
- The coordinates are readable offline, but showing the map and calculating directions still needs a connection.
